The skill stations are set up to support the keynote lecture. Topics that were not covered by the main lecture such as rehab in sport, and children in sports will be covered in this segment. In addition, hands-on are offered in diagnostic and therapeutics. A brief outline of what is to be covered at the skill stations are as follow:
map
1) Sports rehab - Injuries sustained at sporting activites, both casual and professional, have to be attended to at at the acute as well as the ongoing stage. It is anticipated that techniques used in the field, questions of when athletes are ready to return to sport, what contrains have to be observed on return to sports, plus acupuncture programs to return the athlete to their fitness level will be covered.
2) Case presentation - 1 - 2 case histories will be presented to partcipants for analysis and discussion. Participations will be led through the steps in formating a treatment regime, and provide a rationale for their choice of acupoints.
3) Children in Sports - A topic not often covered in lectures. The young athlete is a growing person and functions under very different dynamics to the adult. Expectation and demands from adults, both coaches and parents as well as the child's self esteem play a big part in the injuries sustained and the final outcome of those injuries. Here the stage is set for future degenerative diseases.
4) Ear Points - the ear provide a microsystem that is readily accessible for treatment, both at the acute and chronic stage of injuries. Here paticipants will have the chance to have hand-on in locating and treating the musculoskeletal systems located on the ear.
5) Articles review - Every participants will be asked to critique the articles that were sent to them for pre-reading.
6) Point location and needling techniques - Practical. Points mentioned in the keynote lecture will be demonstrated. The various needling techniques will be demonstrated and participants will have a chance to practice these on each other. |
